Quick Review: Inception (Dir/Wri Christopher Nolan)

I've been waiting for this quite a while. And Oh. My. Word it did not disappoint. I've always admired Christopher Nolan. His films always take the audience on a journey with the characters, it's what I like to call, Active Narrative. Instead of just sitting idly watching what unfolds, you are taken into the story and you are encouraged to think about what is going on. He did it with Memento and he's done it again with Inception.

This film is what I feel epitomises escapism (which is basically what film is) Nolan had this genius idea in which to base a film around dreams. Thus giving him a completely blank canvas in which to let his imagination paint what can only be described as an absolute masterpiece.

Mind shattering visuals only enhances our journey into a 3 tiered adventure of the dream world.

And this is where I draw this brief review to a close. Because I don't believe my words will do this film any justice what-so-ever. This really has to be seen to be believed.

Stunning. Mesmirising. Outstanding. A work of art that will no doubt go down in film history as one of the true greats. This is Concorde of the film world.

My favourite film so far? (In a mere 20 years of existence) Without a shadow of a doubt. I will struggle to find a better film.

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas: Quick Review

I understand that this review is somewhat overdue. However after watching this film I thought it was only right if I reviewed it. If I could sum this film up in one word it would be, Mesmirising.

The film is set in World War 2 and follows Bruno, an 8 year old boy who has recently moved close to a jewish working camp with his family (his dad being a high ranking german officer) After bruno comes across the camp he meets Schmall, an 8 year old jewish boy and they form and unlikely friendship. After bruno's family are asked to move away Bruno joins Schmall on the camp on a quest to find Schmall's missing father. Their quest together ends tragically and the film ends showing the horror of what occured during the Second World War.

This film shows how beautifully naive children are to their horrific surroundings. Amidst all the circumstances, the boys form a friendship that looks past religion, colour or creed.

An outstanding film that will cause the hardest of hearts to be softened to the core. Not many films leave me speachless as the credits role. But this film did, and I'm sure it will to anyone who watches it.

Another Day... Another Flag Draped Coffin

Another fateful day in Afghanistan and yet another soldier returns home. Draped in a union jack flag and paraded through the sombre streets of Wootten Basset. How long must this go on? Sons, Daughters, Fathers, Mothers lost. But still the questions loom, What are we doing there? How many more soldiers have to die?

Since 2001 we have lost over 300 service men and women in Afghanistan and I really can not get my head around why David Cameron refuses to bring all the troops home and allow America and Nato to carry on the restoration of a God-forsaken country.

I understand that we made a pact with the Afghan people to help restore their country and get rid of the Taliban and leaving early would be a somewhat betrayal. But if we think about it, this war could last for decades. The Taliban are most likely recruiting in the surrounding countries of Aghanistan aswel as in the country itself. Places like, Pakistan, Iran.

In my view I think it's time for the boys and girls to come home. Staying there just to preserve the 'Special Relationship' will only cost more lives.
