Another fateful day in Afghanistan and yet another soldier returns home. Draped in a union jack flag and paraded through the sombre streets of Wootten Basset. How long must this go on? Sons, Daughters, Fathers, Mothers lost. But still the questions loom, What are we doing there? How many more soldiers have to die?
Since 2001 we have lost over 300 service men and women in Afghanistan and I really can not get my head around why David Cameron refuses to bring all the troops home and allow America and Nato to carry on the restoration of a God-forsaken country.
I understand that we made a pact with the Afghan people to help restore their country and get rid of the Taliban and leaving early would be a somewhat betrayal. But if we think about it, this war could last for decades. The Taliban are most likely recruiting in the surrounding countries of Aghanistan aswel as in the country itself. Places like, Pakistan, Iran.
In my view I think it's time for the boys and girls to come home. Staying there just to preserve the 'Special Relationship' will only cost more lives.
